West Bay Web was founded in 2009 on the shores of Lake Erie’s Maumee Bay. In 2016, we relocated to Traverse City, Michigan and to the shores of the Grand Traverse West Bay.
Our mission is to help small businesses thrive.
We do this by providing quality Digital Marketing and Search Engine Optimization services.
We are guided by honest and ethical practices. We do well, by doing good.
We do not share information about clients or services that we perform for them. Unlike most firms, we do not publish our portfolio of clients. We do provide references upon request from clients that volunteer their testimonials.
West Bay Web provides exclusive services for our clients. We only take on clients that we can serve wholeheartedly and without conflict of interest with existing clients.
White Hat? Black Hat?
We only provide ethical and honest services. So called "Black Hat" or even shades of grey SEO tactics can harm clients as well as us. We do not provide services to clients that cause a conflict of interest for our client or ourselves.
Neal Carter - Founder
Digital Marketing Consultant, SEO Specialist
“I love finding solutions to problems while helping people achieve their goals.”
Neal began his career in Digital Marketing in 1994 while he was the owner of two bicycle and fitness stores. Frustrated by the expense and lack of results that traditional marketing and advertising produced with a limited budget, he discovered that the World Wide Web, which was then a brand-new medium, could offer a much larger reach at a lower cost and much higher ROI. Just a few weeks after launching his stores first web site, orders began to arrive from around the world.
A few years later he left the retail world to become a Webmaster at one of Ohio’s largest colleges. His responsibilities included creating the college’s first employee Intranet, managing student e-portfolios, and maintaining the college website. He also worked closely with the college marketing and executive departments to implement digital marketing campaigns.
Neal was honored to serve for two years as an advisor to the World Organization of Webmasters (now WebProfessionals.org). He also served as a member of the Ohio Board of Regents E-Portfolio committee, and the college’s Academic Quality Improvement program committee.
During this time, Neal began to do freelance work, building websites and creating digital marketing campaigns with an emphasis on his first favorite specialty - Search Engine Optimization. He founded West Bay Web in 2009.
“Why” and “how” are his favorite words. He hates mediocrity.
Besides enjoying long walks on beaches (yes, really!), Neal is an avid sea kayaker, cyclist (he competed in the Olympic trials), and photographer.
